Fed up with paying car hire fees in France, I sent my beloved 940 estate to take the sun in between our visits. I have had to have her registered in the French system (not a trivial affair) including the French equivalent of the MOT - Controle Technique. After a couple of repairs and a headlight change, she passed.

The advisories included "severe corrosion". On inspection this seems to refer to the panel under the battery tray. Is this a replaceable item any know?

Everything is replaceable(ish). Mine is a bit fubar too, I have been patching it, but it needs cut out and replaced with one from a good car, then properly rust proofed and painted.

Cut and shut!

Trouble is - car is in France and breakers are not so easily found. I'll try here and smuggle it past Mr Ryanair.

It may be picked up by a metal detector - might be easier to send it to yourself via parcel post of some description, yes it puts the cost up but they can't charge you customs duty on it as you already own it, you're taking something from your UK spares stash to repair your car in France - also it's not a new part so again, duty shouldn't be charged as far as i'm aware.
Send it the day before you travel to France and it should be with you a few days later, all nice and easy, no awkward questions from Customs Officers either side of the border or from the airline.
