Rear view mirror
Having an issue with the rear view mirror on my v70. When accelerating , going over bumps and playing music loud it shakes like crazy! It’s secure and doesn’t move but viborstes mad.
Has anyone had this? Any tricks to solve it? It’s fixed onto the window but think the ball joint may have a little give?

The glass insert of my RHS wing mirror has started doing this recently. There's no play when you move it by hand, only when driving.
It must be the hot weather ! I think my car prefers Swedish winters Sorry, but I have no answer to your problem.

My first reaction if the ball joint is a little loose is that you need to increase the friction between the ball and the socket. There are industrial preparations sold in aerosols for increasing the friction between conveyor belts and drive rollers. I think they are sometimes referred to as tackifiers. You could put a tiny amount of that stuff on the ball, work it into the socket a little and see if it prevents the movement in the joint. More brutal would be to remove the mirror from the screen and gently hammer punch the rim of the socket to tighten it onto the ball. Anything you do will be a masterful bodge because I'm sure that the Volvo dealers' solution is to fit a new mirror!

I think if the ball joint was the problen then the mirror would move (drop), rather than just shake.
Mine shakes when I've got some banging tunes on high volume. Don't think there's much you can do except fit shock absorbers to it! |
