Default XC90 R-design 2016 Wishbones

Hi

I have only owned this car for 3 weeks, took it for an MOT and the tester says both front ball joints on the wishbones are worn, now it looks to me that in the ultimate wisdom of Volvo, they have changed these to non-replaceable items (Ball joints)
Now replacement of the wishbones is over 2K at the stealers, has anyone got any suggestions,

I am quite used to spannering, been a tech in the past for Jaguar and Mazda, but that was 30+ years ago

Regards

The individual lower control arm part numbers are:

32381882 (left)
32381881 (right)

They include bushings and ball joints.

I would stick with the Volvo OEM parts, given I can see any good (i.e. Meyle HD) alternatives available.

Just get them from your Volvo dealer's parts desk. Say you want a 10% discount off list price. Should be £250 - £300 each. Double check the part numbers against your reg / VIN when ordering.

Torque information and some other useful part numbers for the job here:

Thanks for the info, I have an old Porsche and the wishbones and joints are fine at 200k, shame the are not engineered for the weight of the car, be worse with another 1000kg of batteries in there

How many miles on your car may I ask?

Used to get to 100,000 miles on genuine volvo suspension. It doesn’t seem like anywhere near that nowadays.

It’s done 108k, just replaced both track rod ends as they were worn, pointed out by the main dealer during the software update and inspection, they did not spot the wishbones.

I’m sure this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg

Replaced the steering wheel buttons as they didn’t work, had all the missing software updates done, that killed the stop start

This car is turning into a whole new world of pain

I've just had completed (away from Volvo) @111k miles:

Both Front Inner Track Rod Ends £199
Both Front Suspension Arms with Ball Joints £316.80
Both Front Anti Roll Bar Links £120

Volvo said only the NSF Track rod and Anti roll bar + OSF Suspension arm, but seeing as the left and right side of the car have done the same mileage, I did both sides of all three items.

Then because of the sensors on the car a complete ADAS alignment was required £95.90

So I’m reality not a shocking bill, the cheapest I can find wishbones is 209 each,
Replaced the track rod ends £24, drop links look not to bad

£316 was a steal if they were genuine Volvo
