Default Don't rush to buy new sensors

Some might remember my suggestion about cleaning the MAF when the engine runs lumpy at idle.
Today, on my way home the engine refused to idle smoothly hunting from 500RPM to about 1000ish. - occasionally just stalling out.
VIDA reported Code ECM262A - long term fuel trim bank 1 lower limit.

Took out the MAF ( and had a really good look for the first time) and cleaned it with electrical cleaner and the connection contacts. Put it all back together cleared the codes and its running once again like a pussy cat.

There was no MIL or other DIM message.

What this shows to me armed with a VIDA/DICE there is no need to rush to renew sensors, as I have been cleaning/resetting for several years now, and never changed a sensor.....YET

What I did not realise - til now, as well as the 1mm wire in the "slot" below it is a "H" shaped array. what it does I don't know- just passing on info

BTW This code is also thrown for airleaks, high fuel pressure, leaking fuel injectors and defective heated Oxygen and MAF sensors

Cheers

Bob

Another code thrown by a dirty MAF is throttle pedal position sensor.

Yeah, crazy I know and I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself a couple of times.

I had a Turbo Wastegate error code when my MAF was kaput.
The MAF seems to have lots of fingers in lots of pies.

Maf is measuring air flow so if it gives correct readings under test, but isn't correctly reading air flow due to contamination, its quite likely that car will assume something else causing lambda readings to be wrong

it measures in air, it measures in fuel, expects certain results, when that doesn't happen it looks at why.

You do need to be careful what you clean the MAF with.

Get the correct one. It's sold on Ebay .
