XC90 Door Swap
Hello,
I have a 2010 XC90 R-Design. Mrs S managed to substantially damage the front passenger door skin - bad enough that it can not be knocked out & the whole door requires replacing with all the trim, door mirror, etc being changed over. My intention is therefore to buy a suitable door from a breakers & have it sprayed up. My question is - will any door from 2004 onwards be ok for a straight swap - as when I see doors advertised they quite often seem to be broken down into different time periods e.g 'will fit 2002-2006' or 'will fit 2010-14' etc. Is there some mod that means I can only use doors from 2010 onwards. All answers gratefully received. Thanks. |

Some differences
Hi. I am not a expert here on the doors that will fit but there were quite a few changes with the facelift in model year 2007. (From mid 2006).
Early cars had black handles, black rubbing strips with indicators in and black mirrors. On later one these were all colour coded and indicators moved to the mirrors. Also some trim changes inside. If you want a straight swap I would look at a facelift door only then check it is an exact match with yours. Good luck. We

Thanks Binty - so if I were purely using the door frame/skin from a pre-2007 (& getting it sprayed up) - but using everything else from my existing door (mirrors, door handle, door card, etc) sounds like everything would be fine - the 2007 facelift doesn't sound like it altered the door shape - just the ancillaries.

You can try but it is risky.
Be prepared to accept the risk and the consequences. All it takes is for bolt holes to be out by 1mm and you are stuck.....

I'd go with a door from the same year - only way to be sure. I used a site - Gentlemenofsalvage.co.uk - give them a shout - you never know! |
