Oil level sensor reset D5 2012
Hi I have fitted the police dipstick upgrade, the dipstick reads lower than the digital readout, and I note comments that the digital display can be reset to match the dipstick once full. I bought the Volvo dealer recommended kit for my 2012 D5, so presumably I can rely on the new physical dipstick?
I’ve put in 5.75L so far and plan to do a few more miles and take a couple more levels before putting more oil in. Can/should the digital display then be reset/recalibrated accordingly? Advice from anyone who knows for sure much appreciated. Many thanks. |

Putting that much oil in you've a good chance you've already over filled it. The recommended refill amount during an oil and filter change is about 5.2 litres

Dipstick vs digital.
I have seen it stated on the forum that 5.6L is safe for this model, in fact I’ve put in nearer that than the 5.75L. Having had garages overfill our cars about 5 times, I put it in gradually and after about 20 miles the digital reading is 75% and it’s just on minimum on the dipstick. 5.9L is recommended in the handbook for my D5.
My actual question is can the oil sensor be reset, and since posting I’ve seen that it seems it has to be done using the workshop software. Last edited by Jeremy P; May 26th, 2022 at 17:26. |
