i was thinking the same there some poor figures really. i dont know why people are so happy with those figures. most people on here dont know how much power there running . as long as it feels faster after the remap thats ok.

It seems the limit is about 14 seconds for a FWD volvo what ever the power . It would be interesting to try a rear wheel drive volvo ...
There are lightweight 125 bhp hillman imps doing 13.5 secs and vw beetles with exotic engines doing 9 secs ...

a bit scathing guys. These cars are not at home on a drag strip and perform better elsewhere.
For the record I know of a big power fiat coupe (apparently maxing the injectors currently at 375ish bhp) that can't do under 13 seconds running on the same strip myself and Jacq do, yet I did a 12.8 with 320ish bhp on my old spec. Also, a Fiat Coupe 20VT 's standard 1/4 mile is almost a whole second quicker than a T5's to start with despite being similar power so hardly a fair comparison to compare your modified time to bigger spec T5's seeing as yours had so much of an advantage already. You did 13.8 at what terminal speed? (imo terminal speed tells more about a cars power then the ET, and certainly indicates much better what would be faster out on the road) at 260 bhp Jacqs T4 was 14.2 @ 101 IIRC, and that was with no diff, traction control, road tyres and running on a rough airfield surface, not a drag strip, so they are hardly useless when they do go to the strip. You can't just base power as the only factor on a 1/4 mile and if you are then you obviously don't know enough about doing them. Tyres (both type and pressure), transmission, gear ratios, suspension, the surface on the day, and the most important thing, the driver, all play a part. Ross

I haven't taken my volvo down the strip but i took my old 21 turbo down both the pod and avon park and the fastest i could manage was at avon with a 15.040 @104mph and that was running on super low profile 17's, with only 249bhp @ the fly! Time is slow but the terminal is fast, i was spinning the wheels till almost half track both at the pod and avon. the volvo feels quicker once moving than my old 21 but off the line they are crap cos they just sit there in big clouds of smoke.
1/4 mile is deffo not for front wheel drive heavy bruisers. |
