Findings of my S70 T5 kapputt engine,
Well as some of you know my old S70 T5 (which i still sorely miss) gave up the ghost last year because of my own stupidity,
Well actually had the engine fully stripped down now, and the findings are that i bent 4 of the rods and bent 12 of the valves, all exhaust valves were gone and also all 5 pistons were dinged on the top by the valves, so no wonder it was making a awfull noise on the day, now not too sure what to do now, do i rebuild the engine and make a stronger bottom end, or should i just forget about rebuilding the engine for something stronger as i have a auto and a AWD system that is weaker than the engine. just would like some of your views guys and gals, Gary,

Have the valves actually hit the piston head? When I stripped my engine down I thought this, but then realised there are grooves in the top of the piston which are valve shaped.

Gary, if i was you id sell the knackered engine and concentrate on the auto box and awd as you said. Search VS about level 10. Thats the performance rebuild of the auto boxes iirc.
Even though it would probably be a good engine to start rebuilding as it hasnt blown the headgasket (?) or overheated (?), it will still be expensive. Would be worth putting all the forged goodies into it and rebuilding the head with some stronger cut valves etc etc etc. If you have money to spend go for it, i personally dont see the point of rebuilding back to standard as you wont get any profit out of it with amount of damage thats been done. OR, you could sell it to somebody that would rebuild it with all the forged goodies Last edited by BlackBeast; Sep 22nd, 2006 at 23:35. |

Seeing as the car had done 150k there is no wear to be seen on the cams cranks or the bores, even the pistons were clean with no carbon buildup, credit to Volvo,

Hi Gary, what you doing posting haven't you got a wedding to go to!!!!
If you do a engine rebuild, stronger components etc, how big a job would it be to transplant your V70R with the uprated engine and manual box, are the AWD's only auto. Could be a long term project, but would cost IMO Ray |

Hi Gary,
not sure if i've missed it but what actually caused the rods to bend etc, i remember you said it was fine on the MBC but went bang when you went back to the BCS, what it a knackered BCS that done it? |

Hi Duane i wouldn't put it down as knackered just say i connected it up wrong, I should've left the MBC in place, but i am starting to like my R a bit more now, lol, Gary

I cannot really justify rebuilding the engine and putting it in the R as either the auto box will blow or the transfer might blow, either way at least lots of ££££s Gary.
