New 245 DL 1978 model Purchase
Hi All
I have posted on here prior requesting a 245 DL in Red/Brown after several years I actually bought one yesterday, it was a barn find and has been parked up for 22 years. I am going to convert it from a round lamp to a square one as well as full-body restoration I am also hoping to convert from auto to manual, the interior is quite sound except for one rip in the back seat at the bottom. I have put a list below and if anyone can help me with the items or direct me it would be appreciated, I have been in contact with quite a few members on FB pages etc so some parts may have been sourced prior to anyone coming back to me, so apologies if it overlaps. List needed Front grill (with the fog lamps built-in) Square bezels Square Lamps Wipers/motors and ancillaries bigger washer bottle etc 1979/82 steering wheel - with two horns on either side 2 rear wheel arch / quarters Rear fog lamp Fog lamp switches for front and rear fog lamps Lockable petrol cap Rev counter and cable Steel wheel caps 4 Manual gearbox with conversion ancillaries prop shaft etc Door chrome trims NS front and rear doors under dashboard covers rear Spare wheel cover in the boot and anything else to convert it from a 1978 model to a 1980 model. would also like to see if I could add power steering if anyone has done a conversion it would be great to have some help and see if it is viable. Thanking you all in advance for any help. Regards Javed |

Welcome.
I hope the swap you and the other new member are talking about works - this really does demonstrate the value of the forum. Alan PS. My motor car is a 1980 244. Nothing is for sale, but if you want to use it as a reference I'd be pleased to help with photos and information.

I'd hang on to your round headlamp bezels if you can in case you or a future owner want to swap back to round lamps. The round headlamp conversion kit seem to be rarer and more expensive than the later square/oblong kits when I've seen them for sale.
I seem to recall that the lights went from round to square in the '79 model year, then either square or rectangular (depending on DL/GL/GLE spec etc) in '80, then a facelifted rectangular shape in '81. The grills with the built in spot lamps are also rare and expensive. regards Lucien Last edited by Lucien; Jan 25th, 2022 at 22:38. |

I'm in Corby, East Midlands. The headlamps on the MY 1980 motor cars (only) are a bit unusual - a different rectangular to the 1981 and later models. They may be a little harder to track down (if you don't have them already) than the later ones. Here they are on the RB: Alan

I think for the MY 1980 motor cars the DL had square headlamps and the GL + GLE had rectangular ones like this (photo from the 1980 sales brochure): ... and the DL: I am guessing Volvo was using up surplus square headlamps from the 1979 MY with the DL. I'm pretty sure the lamps changed again in 1981 to different rectangular lights - which I think persisted until the end of the 240 range. Alan
