Default Washer T-piece on bonnet.

My windscreen washers are barely trickling water out of the pin holes on the bonnet. I suspect this is down to the T-piece, that feeds the two bonnet washers.

By removing the hose from the washer reservoir, at the T-Piece end, I can get a good jet of water from the hose. If I then remove the two short hoses, that run to the washer jets, I get a pretty powerful jet of water, from the centre hole of the T-piece.

The T-Piece, has a red cap, with symmetrical outlets for the washer jets and is fed from the reservoir, by a pipe that connects to a right-angled connector, on the T-piece, directly below and parallel to, on of the jet outlets.

Reading another thread, referring to T-pieces for headlight washers, I suspect that the T-pieces are similar.

On popping the red cap off of this one, I found the piston inside, was sticking. However on removing the piston, I then found that there was no ball-bearing in the housing (contained in the spring), so I could not see how this could operate as a one-way valve.

Therefore, I used a ball-bearing I had, cleaned the piston and interior of housing and re-assembled. Now it works fine.

I cannot understand what happened to the original BB and actually doubt there was one, so there may have been something other than a BB used to block the air-hole in the T-piece.

They only cost a couple of pounds from the dealer,
Also if your car is a 850 you could benefit from fitting the V70 jets that clip in the bonnet as they provide a much better spray pattern, again only a couple of pounds from the dealer

Good tip Mike, I'll pop into my local dealer and order a new T piece and the two jets from a 70-series next week. I always thought they were a bit poor!

Cheers, Darren

There never was a ball bearing!! Just a rubber diaphragm that has probably disintegrated, you can cut a small circle from an old rubber glove to repair it. Its a non return valve to stop water running back to the bottle.

Default 850/V70 washer jets?

Hi - I picked up a pair of V70 jets from my local "unfriendly" dealer today, only to see that they were the same two jet nozzles that I already have on the 850. Please can someone advise which car I need to be buying the washer jets from, is it the S40 and will they fit without modifying the holes in the bonnet?? Many thanks.
Raoul.
