I wanted a V50 and didn't want the complexity of a diesel for may reasons, the main being, my use just don't make a diesel a good choice.
I couldn't justify a T5 and the 2.4 was a possibility, but I opted for the 2lt. I've had mine a year and I'm very happy with it. The only real issue with these engines is high oil consumption from stuck / worn oil rings. Regular oil changes with a good quality oil should avoid this. Swirl flaps were an issue on older versions of this engine, but don't hear so much about them, so I'd hope they're not much of an issue now. Mine had a full Volvo service history and they were done bang on every year. Mine gets an oil change every year / 6000 miles regardless, in fact its due now! Its a great car to drive, but with it being petrol you have to work the engine that bit harder to get the best from it. Peak torque is around 4000rpm, peak power is around 6000 rpm. Fuel economy isn't the best, but I get about 32mpg from mixed driving and 40mpg on long motorway drives. |

Love my 2l c30. great car. will easily do 35mpg with combined driving and a fair bit in town.
good power. suspension will be tired at 80k. If looking for a good value alternative to stock the bilstein b4 are excellent value. with eibach pro springs it is more comfortable than 80000 oem set up. great choice. also, if you do want bluetooth. you can get an anker bt receicer for 18 quid. hide in centre cubby where aux port is and runner a 12v cig to usb power through rear hinge to rear footwell 12v cig. The cig powers with ignition which wakes up the bt adapter, which auto connects to yr phones bluetooth. Its an elegant solution and cheap with good sound quality. enjoy yr new c30! |

Regular, good quality oil changes are a must to prevent the rings gumming up and causing high oil consumption. |

I consider them to be Mazda engines as they are from the 'Mazda L' engine family:
The 1.6-litre duratec (with timing belt) is a Ford engine , but the rest are Mazda derived and chain driven: 1.8 L (110 CID; 1798 cc) 2.0 L (122 CID; 1999 cc) 2.3 L (138 CID; 2261 cc) 2.5 L (152 CID; 2488 cc) The 1.8 and 2.0 you'll find in the Mazda MX-5. The 2.3 litre was given a turbo and boosted up to 256bhp in the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 MPS peformance cars from the mid 2000's and I believe this engine is similar to the 2.3 "ecoboost" engine powering the Mk3 Focus RS and the Mustang Ecoboost. |

I have owned a C30 1.8 for the last 8 years and it's very reliable, starts first time every time and I've never had a problem withit. Fuel consumption on mine is very good...never get less than 37.5 MPG and have had over 41MPG during summer months. |
