The D3/D4 diesel will certainly feel different to drive over a 2.0T petrol. Whatever the paper figures may suggest, it will probably feel quicker once on the move. The MkII C70 is a heavy car at 1¾ tons and it certainly feels like it when pulling away from rest. I don't know that the MkI was ever particularly a pointy driver's machine, but the MkII auto certainly works best as a relaxed cruiser, with plenty in reserve for overtaking when you need it.
I think I've read on here that the D4's extra power and torque over the D3 is all in a narrow part of the rev range. I have certainly read reviews from when they were new, that the D3 is really all you need. The fact that far more of them were registered would seem to bear that out. All I can suggest is to go and try one, there's a very nice low mileage Solstice auto in Gerrard's Cross on the Autotrader at the moment. You'll be seduced by the very comfortable real leather seats and the surround sound system! Best of luck

That particular C70 sadly blows our budget but, as you suggest, we really need to try a D3 out. |

Like any older car, regardless of price, find a good one and it will be good; buy a junker and you'll soon sell it.
