Default Rear wiper repair

Hi,

Have been following the guides found on here for repairing a non functioning rear wiper. My thanks.
Have dismantled, motor working fine but have taken everything apart, cleaned and greased.
The white plastic toothed gear has worn in places, leading to the splines not connecting and driving the rest of the mechanism. Pooh.

By any chance, do you think this part maybe replaceable or will it be a new/used entire unit?

I have a feeling i know the answer but thought i'd ask on here in case someone has solved this - ingenious folk on here don't you know!

I'm pretty sure you can't buy new parts separately, but you might be able to get a second hand unit from a breaker. Even if it doesn't run (bad motor) you could cannibalise it for the gears.

Scroll down the ebay page.
might be worth contacting these people, they may have one that fits. But scrap yard may be best bet.

Usually things like rear wiper motors are used on may cars (maybe with different brackets though) but I believe these are unique to the XC90....

I managed to overhaul mine 2 years ago - new ones are circa £160 with pattern ones being cheaper.

Many thanks for the help. Tried that company, alas the cog is not some thing they stock.
Just back from the scrappy (sorry, vehicle recycling centre.) No broken ones but £45 for a replacement and one of my vehicles most unused components (due to privacy glass and the worlds dimmest rear view mirror) is back in business.

What do you mean? How does privacy glass affect your rear wiper? The rear view mirror is just that, a mirror. If the image is dim, check that the anti-dazzle function is working correctly.

Gmonag,

No, lol. The last owner put window limo film on all the windows, the back one is quite dark. For a while I thought it was the anti dazzle rear view mirror until I realised my kids faces were the right colour in the mirror. Much laughing at my idiocy.
