V50 1.6d2 design cambelt come off.
Hi guys, my cambelt came off doing about 80mph and given by noises I am not even going to attempt to repair the engine. + its at 155k miles so I am better off getting another engine. Not having much luck finding a v50 d2 engine but I have found 2 (2015) v40 engines with 25k miles for about 1k.
I love the car so I want it fixed and I am wondering if anybody can confirm the engine will fit no problems? Would also take the gearbox if that would fit. Thank you in advance for any assistance... |

If you change the ancillaries, the block is the same providing you get the 8 valve engine. |

Thanks bloders...
I just want to make sure I make the best of this opportunity and it could be the high pressure pump that seized to cause failiure. The car has been serviced on the dot and the cambelt changed at 85k previously, I thought I was ok until 170k to be honest. If I could take everything inc turbo/ high pressure pump and everything else including the gearbox then I would have a fresh car mechanically. Every v50 or c30 engine I have found have all done "60k" apparently with nothing to back it up. If the v40 was identical I would be delighted as I could get everything. If I change just the engine I could run into problems if it was the high pressure pump or if bits of metal have made it into the system. I am unsure of my dream of being able to remove the v50 engine with gearbox etc attached / bolt in and hook up the v40 set up is possible. I have put a request on many part finder sites and I may get lucky and source one from a 2012 v50 with low miles and service book maybe. I was hoping someone may have had the same issue and find out how they got over it. All assistance or comments much appreciated. Thanks Barry |

Surprised you're having trouble finding an engine though as the 1.6 is one of the most widely used in recent years |

Get a 1.6 8 valve engiine from somewhere. I would suspect Ford and Peugeot use the same fuel pump as Volvo so use those. its ancillaries like pipes etc which may not fit due to routing through the vehicle |

Hi, I have the engine and it looks identical, the mechanic is going to have a good look at it but it seems a perfect match. It's also got d4162t stamped on it so I hope to Christ its ok!! Paid good money for it as its only 17k miles.

Update- the vea engine was fitted in 2015 and that's a 2.0 unit, the 1.6 fitted until then is the same "C" platform engine fitted in the mini/ ford and mazda etc. the engine is an identical match thank god and I will be using all the ancillaries from my V50 including injectors etc to save having to re programme the ecu etc.
Should have it back early this week and I have fitted a new clutch/ cambelt / water pump/ driveshafts/ lower arms. Will also have a spare turbo and injectors going forward. Very expensive and painful experience and all I can say is CHANGE YOUR CAMBELT / TENSIONER on time!!! Mine was at 157k when it went and it was changed in halfords at 87k, so 70k miles on the second only.. Mechanic says the tensioner failed and not the high pressure pump as first thought, belt was ok. |

Makes me wonder what parts Halfords fitted?
Not the company I trust to touch my car tbh. |
