Extraction oil change
Hi all
I have performed an oil extraction oil change on my z4 before and it was very straightforward so I thought I'd give it a go on my high mileage xc60. Problem is it does not have a dipstick to thread the extractor hose down and I cant get it to go down the oil filling cap. I tried to get the sump plug off but it's pretty solid and a bit rounded from previous services. Is there any way to get the extractor hose into the engine that I'm missing or is it a trip to the garage for me? Thanks in advance Pedro |

With all respect if you are questioning why you can't get an extraction pipe into the engine via the oil filler cap than maybe servicing isn't something you should be doing yourself.
Sump plug off is the only way oil should be changed as extraction can't get all the sludge out. |

Agreed.
Just changed the oil on my D5 yesterday, have a Pela oil pump but you'd be there for weeks... so sump plug out and oil dropped, only thing I generally use the vacuum pump for is the power steering, diffs and sooking out the oil from the base of the filter housing. Trying to draw 6.5 litres out via the dipstick would be a long task I fear! |
