In theory, everything has 0 current when the ignition is off. That's what a 'short' actually does by grounding the positive in a switch, module, etc causing the current to circulate while the ignition if off.

Here's the video with the DIY replacement of the sockets

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1xxHECS8as

I will also be doing soon a DIY video with diagnosing/finding a parasitic drains in these cars. There are a few videos already out on Youtube but they don't work on these cars, as there is a specific way to attach a multimeter on Volvo to measure for parasitic drains.

If there no potential difference, there’ll be no current, no?
When the Rear Electric Module shuts down, all the circuits become open, there’s no voltage across the bulb holders, that’s why they go out. You can jam a screwdriver into the bulb holder, unless you have RCD protection like at home, nothing will happen.

Yesterday I swapped out the noisy (clunking) offside driveshaft, and made a list of jobs that need doing over the next few weeks:

Aux belt idler and tensioner
Full rebuild of handbrake
Fix missing seal on steering column
change brake servo - not looking forward to that one
Fit towbar - for holiday in 3 weeks

I'm sure more will turn up as I dig further!

and todays job of pulling the front bumper off and changing the slam panel as it's slightly twisted, looks like it's had a very low speed tap on the o/s front bumper that's pushed the slam panel back.

That's all my weekends busy for the next few weeks.

This is on a car that's had everything it ever needed done at great expense between 2003 and 2016, then the bloke I bought it off owned it for 2 years and looks like he didn't spend a penny on anything mechanical!

I had to use my wife's car as I left my side lights on and drained the battery like a nob......should my XC70 make an audible tone if they're left on? My focus did....

NO - there's no lights on warning.

Thumbs up

Gave the V70 a wash, then sealed the paint and plastic trim.
Wheels were cleaned and tyres dressed.
Ocean Race steering wheel was previously refurbished and fitted. Nice addition to the cabin and feels much slimmer than the original one.

I leave mine on the dipped setting, so they go off automatically, when the ignition key is removed.

Fitted new aux belt idler and tensioner as I could find no record of them being done in the ‘new’ cars paperwork and there is a pulley squeak on the aux belt run. The ones I took off where nearly new and a good make - was surprised, and I’ve still got the squeak. Alternator is good so power steering pump (was cause on old car) or aircon compressor. It can wait!
