Default AA - no clear pricing policy....

I've been a member of the AA since 1992. Every year I get my renewal papers through the post and I phone the AA and get a hefty discount off the price they have quoted. This year I got just over a third off by making a free phone call but because my bank has been taken over there was a problem with the DD payment and I got a letter from the AA stating my membership had lapsed. I phoned them to get the membership up and running again and pay with a card. Imagine my surprise when I was quoted an even cheaper price saving another £30 because I was a new member!
I wonder how many AA members just pay the annual renewal each year without thinking or checking the price.............
Lesson to be learned here!

RAC is the same, annual argument over the renewal price is the norm I think

You would think loyalty counts for something but in this case not. Interesting that the RAC do the same thing.

Have you noticed that insurance companies, mobile phone operators, telephone companies, power companies .... all offer discount to new contracts and provide nothing to loyal customers?

It is not unique to the AA

Default reduction in renewal

well my renewal for my aa membership, aa relay, and homestart [which is supposedly complimentary for being a member for over 25 years[ was for £113
looking on the aa website i found that the aa membership, and aa relay was £77.
the aa membership, aa relay, and the homestart was £99.

so on the telephone i go,talked to an advisor, who after hearing i was a member of 31 years, and only called them out 4 times, transfered me to a supervisor, result!! my renewal was reduced to £77, note this was not classed as a new member, i still retain my 31 years membership status.
so, is the homestart actually complimentary?

my sincere thanks to member VOLVO GHILLIE for origanally bringing this subject up.

got my family renewal through £165.

quick call to say nothanks i'm off the the RAC! they then offered me the same package for £80.

that will do thanks.

one thing i have noticed is you do get allowed more call outs being a renewal than by renewing as a new customer.

Also just noticed my Direct Line house insurance has come through and as an existing customer my level of cover has increased over what a new customer would get.

Give us that cos we told them we was off to the RAC, as said don't see why we should have to go through all the phone calls every year.
