Use Copilot Live 8 on a Desire (Froyo 2.2 ver. 2.29.405.5) and works very well. It's as good as any of the dedicated sat nav's.

I didn't realise there were Sat Nav apps for androids! I will definitely be checking out for my htc! The other half takes the Garmin all the time and I have nothing to guide me!

I use copilot V8 on both my desire and desireHD but also use google maps which is very good now as it can cache maps. I also have the built in navigation that comes on the desireHD which is also very good.

Overall I think copilot wins but only just. Been looking into sygic as well, and at the price they are doing it at currently it is a bargin.

As most dedicated sat navs cost £100 and upwards, to be able to have access to several different ones on a large 4.3'' screen for less than £60 and everything else that comes with a modern android HTC device, is a major plus.

google uses your internet connection wheras the others use gps which is much better, and if you loose phone signal you dont loose your sat nav!!

As mentioned you need an active data connection for google maps. That's Ok if you're in the Uk on a Uk contract that includes a data allowance (500mb+ I hope!).
Soon as you travel to the Eu though you are shafted! Hence the preference for an off-line type of GPS/navigation package.

Will be sticking to Navdroid in europe this year.

Google map navigation is a very good system especially now it caches the map tiles (In Froyo 2.2) ie. it stores the map tiles you have looked at (and only at that magnification). You need a data connection to calculate your route, recalculate your route or zoom in on the map. The downfall is if you try to use it where there is no data connection availible and then you're stuffed. There are still large area's without data coverage. Much better having all the maps stored on the device as in Copilot then all you need is the GPS signal and you're on your way regardless how remote the spot you are in.
