Depending on way you go the majority of Mappers will Map the car via the OBd port others will do the Ecu.

Using MPPs flashing has to be done with ecu in boot mode that is why you do it on the bench, but if you take the ecu out and fit a switch so you can put it in to boot mode, you can then use MPPs using obd port,
I think the new version of MPPs will do it using obd port with out fitting a switch to put it in to boot mode, but it COST's £££££.

There Is nothing wrong with tacking the ecu out and doing it on the bench, if you use the correct tools and can solder well/fine,

Well, Collected the new Turbo intake pipe yesterday morning and fitted it.

The old pipe was't split anywhere, but there were signs of cracks along the ribs indicating that it may have been compressing under load.

After replacement the performance certainly seems better than before, however I still get the dumping noise around 2-2200rpm for a second or two.

Pickup is fairly slow initially, however after the dumping noise it pulls like a train.

Prior to the pipe being replaced, I used the torque app to measure MAF and boost under load.

With a bit of spirited driving, max boost reached approx 22psi and the MAF 135g/s.

When the dumping noise occurs, the boost is running around 15psi.

Still need to get time to get under the car to test the VNT actuator.

Hi 22psi is the most the car will read as the 2002 D5 only have a 2.5BAR MAP sensor, so if they never changed the sensor the car may be over boosting and you, and the car will never know the car will have no protection to cut the boost, fuel, ask the tuner if they fitted a 3BAR MAP sensor and set up for,
a lot of tuned 163 D5 are not fitted with a 3BAR MAP sensor , if there is a problem with the turbo it will not go into limp mode as the tuner alsosets the SVBL,(boost limit) to high , also a STD obd reader will only read up to 22psi on th D5, but Volvo vida and the icarsoft scanner will read as high as the MAP Sensor as it reads true Volvo data as the ecu will see it, and if a 3bar map sensor is fitted the ecu will detect over boost if the boost limit has been set to the correct limit,
can you tap the egr pipe and fit a real boost gauge so you can see what is the real turbo pressure, but I would think the car is overboosting, and that is what the noise is, get a real boost gauge, also ask the tuner what the max boost is set to,
Dave

Thanks Dave.

The MAP was not changed, but mine is a late 2002 registration, must by a MY2003 as the MAP is on the intercooler.

Not sure if that means it's still a 2.5 bar sensor.

I'll check what the max boost is set to with the tuner tomorrow.

I'd rather avoid fitting a boost gauge for now, although appreciate it could help things here.
