Default Dash cam hardwire

Hi all

I'm wanting to hard wire my dash cam into the fuse box using a piggyback extension and was going to use fuse 45 which I believe is the fuse for the power/charging socket. Is this the best one to use or can any of the empty/not in use fuse locations be used? Obviously need a fuse location which is not live when the car is off. Sorry if this has been covered before and thanks for any advice.

Is it a mini fuse or standard in the V50?

I looked at my fuse box/cem and they are mini fuses so you need to get the correct piggy back connector.

can I ask where you attached the earth wire, is there a convenient place within the fuse box area? Thanks.

Hi I just drilled a tiny hole in the car body a crimp/solder eye on the end with a self tapping screw totally out of sight.
Don't be worried about drilling a tiny hole behind the scenes the car is full of holes etc you can't see.
The hole will not cause any problem even when removed.
The power cable I fed down the pillar again totally out of sight.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot Crocky1, I already have the camera in the car with the cable tucked away nicely like you. The problem i have is it ends up plugged into the power socket which i don't want! I'll need to redo it when i hard wire it in. Thanks again for the info

I have not fitted mine yet but had planned to take a permanent live from the EBD socket (wiring) - this works for BMWs, would it be convenient for our cars ?
