Looking to scrap my beloved S60
I have a 2003 S60 D5 with 80K miles.
It has broken spring, drop links need done, oil leak (think it was from gearbox so needing seal) and possible clutch due to oil leak. It has been sitting for 2 weeks, so battery flat (I disconnected as doors wouldn't lock with key and lights staying on). It also has the intermittent dash issue flashing on and off when it likes. It's also a cat D from an accident couple years ago, but spent the money I got fixing it up. I refused to give it up at the time cos it's like a limb to me, but when I see what needs done now, it gives me a headache. Now time to go, anyone any idea what the best price I could get for it for scrap is, never been in this situation before? Was thinking of popping it on gumtree. |

Stick it on eBay with decent photos, clean it first, and an honest description and I bet you’ll get way more than scrap price. Charge battery as well so people can see that it runs.

If it's indeed 80000 miles, I would indeed put it up for sale. It needs a new clutch slave cylinder ($$) but someone will be willing to fix that if it's this low miles.

Looking at it again, this could be a few minor and mostly DIYable issues if you have space. The only possible bigger issue is the oil leak - is it spewing oil out of the core plug or running down the engine from somewhere else?

Yeah, I will try charging battery, fill with oil and try to start. Will let you know how I get on. Good idea with diy and try to sell when up and running. I've not looked yet, but is there a thread for fitting Spring? It's right against my tyre ready to puncture it as soon as car moves.

If you're getting rid of the car, I'd suggest buying a 2nd hand strut assembly off ebay (assuming it's the front spring) and swapping it over complete - otherwise you'll need a decent set of spring compressors to do the spring.

If you were nearer me i'd buy it as a fixer-upper - that's all easy enough to repair.
My 2004 D5 is on 256k miles with no issues - so yours on 80k is barely run in. Oil leak might be the common core plug issue - which is a PITA it terms of work but the replacement part is cheap. |

What is the price I would get for a "fixer upper'. Will probably get in on gumtree or eBay this week.

Swapping the spring is very easy, just a few bolts and a spring compressor if you have access to one. Changing the clutch would be the biggest pain but it's doable if you have the tools. I would definitely try to fix it up if you have a will to do it
