Any Eastern Bloc favourites? Chaikas, Zils and Volgas perhaps?
Don't all rush.
An entertaining thread, and so good natured.

Eastern Bloc? Ok, a former Eastern Bloc country. A stunning museum I first visited in the winter of 1993.

If this isn't of interest you need to check for a pulse.

There may be a reason that some do not feature on anyone's list, Jim.

Having owned a 1972 Moskvitch estate and a 1975 Wartburg Knight in period, I have to say that neither would appear on mine!

Good cars, both, in the sense that they were cheap and did 'what it said on the tin', but hardly memorable.

Regards, John.

Thanks for the link - been to lots of places in Central and Eastern Europe but never visited Czech Republic, that museum looks like a good enough reason on its own.

The Czech Republic is a lovely country, was splitting into the Czech Republic and Slovakia when I was there in '93. Was a highly developed country before WW2 and years of Communist oppression (see museum), and sadly these days Prague is plagued with stag weekends !

A very good old timer friend (sadly long departed) who lived in the Highlands (of Scotland) used to swear by his Skoda 130 when it snowed.

I can vouch for that also, briefly owned an Estelle 130 and it was second best snow car I have owned...best? My 1200 cc '71 beetle.

Similiar in concept of course, friend of mine had a Beetle* (Tangerine paint, white vinyl) in the early 80s, when it snowed it was always his car we went out in - I had a 2002 (wasn't so good in the snow) !

Jon.

*coincidentally his was on a J plate.

One could argue that the domiciled Austrian engineer who was the father of Porsche was ledwinka, not ferry...particularly as vw did eventually pay tatra compensation for Porsche's cribbing of ledwinkas design...
