Default Reversing light bulb

It’s re my 2011 C70, but I used this thread as it possibly relates to the wider range.

Anyone uprated the reversing light bulbs from the 6w H6W OEM? I have a reversing camera, and tbh the camera's built-in LEDs need a bit more help from the reversing lights.

Thanks

Malcolm

I am surprised it's only 6W as I had always assumed it was 21w. Never needed to change my Volvo ones so don't know and not questioning it. It does seem rather puny considering the car.

All the reversing lights I have come across have always been 21w.

Could be my advanced age, of course, but Ive just checked the manual again, and I’m sure it says reversing light output 6w, by comparison, it quotes rear fog at 21w.

I would check the car as I'm thinking that is a misprint. Rear fog, brake and indicator lights are all 21w while sidelights and numberplate lights are 5w. By comparison reversing lights tend to be a lot brighter than numberplate lights and I would think they are 21w.
Since the use of led lighting on vehicles this simple factor has changed and the light output of a 6w led can be far greater than a 21w tungsten filament. If your car runs standard filament lamps rather than led ones as I said I think it's a misprint. Know my handbook has a few, 12.5 litres in the cooling system !! In your dreams half of it will be overflowing down the road.

Could someone else check the manual for me please? I agree 21w is more like it, but I have checked both my hard copy manual, and online, both say H6W 6w bulbs. I’ve even looked on eBay for H6W bulbs, and the non-LED are 6w.

When I get chance I’ll do as Paul suggests, remove one, and take it to my local motor factors to try and match the pin arrangement but with higher output, as, regardless of wattage, I still want them brighter!!

Hi Malcolm -

My manual says the same as yours - 6w H6W. I've also got the actual bulb out of the car in front of me, it is indeed an OSRAM 64132, H6W. It's the normal push & twist fitment, so no pin-outs to worry about.

Hope this helps

Thanks,Ian, I’ve taken one out of mine, it looks like the P.O. had fitted LEDs, but left the originals in the boot with a few more oddments of bulbs. It seems they are staggered pins, so I’ll see what I can get to match.

Otherwise it seems I’m stuck with them. Hey ho, worth a try, thanks for the responses.

How about retrofitting some high light output H6W LEDs in their place? Just had a quick look on Ebay & there seems to be a proliferation of them available
