Default MPG in D4 V60

On a cold wet afternoon with nothing else to do I've eased my OCD curiosity by spending 15 minutes working out my MPG over 66000 miles since I bought the car new almost 8 years ago. Car has been serviced annually at the Volvo agent...well, £500 for the first 5 years was too good to miss. Usual EGR recall etc done before trouble could appear.

52.1mpg is the answer. Not bad.

The vast majority of journeys are a minimum 25 miles on rural roads. Occasional light-footed (cruise control on dual carriageway and M11) trips of 250 miles to South London usually do 62mpg.

Its V70 predecessor from 2003 managed about 43 overall, and the 940 petrol did 29ish

D4's a pretty good engine if you don't light the turbo's too often.

I find my 2014 D4 is very good on mpg on my long weekly 210 mile round trip mostly on motorways, around 62mpg. Show it a bit of town or urban driving though, and it plummets, more than I'd perhaps expect. Great car and engine though.

52.1 is good for a motorway figure, my daily drive is 95% bypass but has lots of roundabouts so braking and accelerating back up to 70, I average 40mpg in my S60 D4 (it's auto too).

On a run from Bristol to Norwich however I got it up to 56.2 so mega happy with that

I don't think my 2012 D4 V60 is as good on fuel as my 2001 Rover Connoisseur was tbh. However, I didn't buy it for that, I wanted a change after 11+ years of Rover ownership and wanted to get back to Volvos which I'd had for over 20 years. I do like my V60 but I'm concerned that reliability has taken a sharp dip since I last owned a Volvo.

If you're referring to my Rover it had a BMW engine, I've never had a Volvo diesel.

I had a 75 2.0 CDT Connoisseur manual for a while, and it was a good car.

In the end, however, I couldn't achieve a comfortable driving position without hiding part of the speedo behind the steering wheel, and the door cards tended to play along with the music even after I upgraded the stereo and speakers, so I sold it on.

Sadly, I bought it not long before Rover went bust, so I lost money when I sold it on via ebay. People couldn't even give them away on Autotrader.

What I did do is buy the Rover remap since the engine was a bit dull in standard 115bhp form.

Ok, I wondered because the Montego & Maestro had Perkins diesels and they were fantastic. Time slips by as the 75 was indeed a BMW product.

I was mixing you up with what the op said regarding D4's my bad.

Not a problem, by the way, although I've only had my D4 2012 V60 a year I am happy with it overall, and fuel consumption isn't too bad. A trip to Llanelli from Wolverhampton towing a caravan with a bit of driving around during the week we were there returned low to mid 40mpg so I'm quite happy with that.

Also the Perkins diesels were almost bomb proof, although not particularly refined iirc.
