I used a DTUK box on my old D2 V40 - don't get me wrong, seat of the pants had sooooo much power!

But...

The engine cover wouldn't go back on...

When you stopped the engine a relay was clicking constantly (which I believe was a pressure bypass) which was worrying, something running "over duty maybe"?

I had some strange hiccups and behavior occasionally...

MPG trip computer was utter bu****it reading...

Had my pants pulled down for a re-stocking fee, which I accept is part of their T&C's - but nowhere did it state the install wouldn't look stock and not accept the engine cover. Nor did it state un-desirable things like pressure valves clicking would be happening.

That being said, you do find loads of happy customers in respect of the performance gains.

Is there anyone left in the whole world that does not know that fitting non factory approved performance enhancements might negate the factory warranty and insurance cover in extremis? I believe it is a matter of common sense even if not. If they don't even have a doubt about this and don't ask the question for themselves if required, one wonders how on earth they ever got into the position of being able to afford a current Volvo.

In fact I took the position of the OP by proxy and felt rather insulted that anyone would think of pointing out the blatantly obvious in such a fashion, assuming, if only subconsciously, that 'I' was some kind of moron.

This does not really deserve a reply. But suffice to say if you think you can remove if unhelpful, and that they probably don’t care I am afraid you are very much mistaken. I say this from experience.

I hope I don’t seem rude however I am not really concerned as you seem pretty impolite yourself.

What I said was quite clear. Not quite sure what you are saying though. What do you presume to think I can remove if unhelpful? Who are they that don’t care about what, and what experience is relevant to the preceding words. I really don’t think I’m being thick in not understanding much of anything you wrote. Try writing the words in a different order.

I would be quite interested to hear how the OP gets on with the tuning box. My car is still in warranty period, but when it expires i may consider a remap or a tuning box.

I have had cars remapped in the past, and once had a tuning box. I guess most people who fit these boxes are aware that it is a grey area, but as long as you inform insurer, and accept there may be implications for warranty and premature wear, then it's a cheap and non permanent way to enhance performance.

Please let us know your experiences with the tuning box.

Blimey only posted to let others know that a box was available for the D5 now..
Yes I am well aware of implications of fitting one as I was in the last 2 cars I had them on.
Yes my insurance has been informed.

They are not for everyone as people may be happy with the standard power of what ever flavour of car they drive, I was not.

Anyhoo, I recommend them and makes the big barge a little more fleet of foot.

Only had my new V90 for 6 months, previously had a Mondeo and just moved over here from the Ford forum. A post about tuning boxes and remaps over there would have been quite enthusiastically received, in fact I had a Superchips remap on my Mondeo and it was brilliant. I have to say I'm finding this Volvo forum a teensy bit anal/safe/boring, doesn't seem to be any interest whatsoever in modding, improving, upgrading?

Dons tin hat...

To an extent I agree. Maybe Volvo still suffers from being seen as an 'old man's car'?
Anyhow, the reaction in this topic about insurance is another one that intrigues me. Honestly, my insurance company reps [the NFU have local offices with local employees] just don't want to know about such trivial matters. I have the Polestar upgrade on my XC90 but was not told to contact my insurer. I did once when I chipped a vehicle first time, a BMW X5, and they just shrugged their shoulders and one said "so what?" All they are interested in really is the make, model, insurance class and total value. End of as far as I and they [locally] are concerned. I suspect that some insurers feign interest just as an excuse to raise premiums for no legitimate reason. Cynical? Maybe.

Very shortly I am swapping my XC60 R Design D5 Polestar for a new XC60 D4 AWD Inscription Polestar.
Reading and comparing the specs for the two vehicles I am afraid that I am going to find the new car a disappointment (buyers remorse perhaps)
reasons to buy to get EU 6 exhaust and AdBlue. So I am avidly reading up on ways of perking up the D4 to something a bit closer to the D5 in performance.

Apart from the badges on the car what differentiates a current D4 to a D5, is it just the engine management system?

Any thoughts please.
