Help Boot wont shut S40... A.S.A.P

Hi all

wife came back tonight, and said the boot will not shut on our S40

just had a quick look latch not locking and both registration lights on very dim

any help please as soon as possible

update:

still not shutting when you press the micro switch reg light go bright for a couple of seconds

took off the exterior handle thinking water might have got in, but it is dry.

Hi there,

I had a similar sounding issue.

My boot latch would not catch, I could press the unlock button and I'd just get the sound of the lock clicking.

I took the lock off the boot lid and inside the plastic catch has snapped off. I stuck it back on with arrodite and job done.

It could be that or your boot lock is bust.

check latch is not in closed position when boot is open

Now got lock off, cant see anything broken, latch is open.

when i disconnect the wires from it the reg lights will go off

i am thinking it might be the lock broken unless someone knows better.

if i got a new lock is it a case of just fitting it, or is it another thing you need Volvo to program into the car.

check the wires on nsr where grommet goes into cabin for broken wires

I at Volvo now can someone please tell me what fuse the boot switch is

New lock is now closed shut

Still need help here, this is how i stand.

Put in new lock £130, tried it with a screwdriver first off the car it locked
pressed the boot switch, it opened, ( success )

disconnected the wire and bolted it to the car, connected it up and used the screwdriver again it closed (good)
went to open it and again opened, tried again locked but did not open.

pulled out the grommet and checked the wires 3 have the plastic coating split but not snapped
put insulation tape on for now ( new boot loom ordered will get it Monday)

but for now i have got continuity in all 4 wires going to the boot lock and not touching any other wires.

By disconnected both ends of the loom then reconnecting i can shut latch and open it once only then nothing.

could it still be the loom?

A few years ago our s40 59 reg boot would not open. It was some micro switch that was the problem.
