As a bystander i've always been amazed with the rust resistant bodywork of 700s even the battered old unloved ones, of which there are still a few around my place. Didn't know about the problems underneath.

If you care to put D768LCE into 'cazana", '57RKL', you will see what killed mine. Over £400 worth of welding with the expectation of more in subsequent years. On the plus side, as I paid £1750 when it was 11 years old and it lasted me for 18 more, my depreciation was less than £100 per year. I call that economical motoring!

Regards. John

Very economical motoring John. I swapped my 740 Turbo for a 940 6 years ago. Took a long time to sell even at £350 give away price. People on here humming and harring. Crazy. No rust white manual 745 Turbo Intercooler in good nick but usual poor interior and electrics. It did drink fuel though. Do hope you will come over to have a chat next week. Its the black 945.

Cheers,

Richard

Let's return to the thread subject, Volvo Trivia.

Here's a Melburg Cabriolet - nice.

I like that, shame the handlebars are on the wrong side! Looks like it's based on the 740 rather than the 780, bonnet/wings look 740 length rather than the slightly short 780 snout?

You're right Dave it is based on a 740, I've seen it at a Volvo Beurs (not my photo though).

I'm not sure if this qualifies as trivia but I'm having (severe) second thoughts about continuing to dismantle the 1986 C plate 744 I have on my driveway. Car is white, with blue Trico Plush (pinstripe) interior, only done 60k from new...one owner before me.

B230k, GL, manual 'box...six digit index number.

Trouble is it has been rather neglected of late.

Any thoughts ?

What engine/box has it got Jon? My choice would be the B230E with auto box or a cheeky B280E although that looks a little early to have the B280E as an option.

I suppose they used a base/entry-spec model for the conversion to keep costs down though?

Can't remember what engine it had, I guess a B230, whether a K or E I don't know, and not a Volvo 700 colour either - quite a few early cars in Holland, and 700s command very strong money there.

Put it back together, sort out what's needed for the MoT, get any bodywork problems sorted, interior valeted then set yourself up as a wedding car business as a part-time/weekend job. Best of both worlds - you get to keep a fairly rare car in good condition and others pay you for the privilege!
