Post 1993 Volvo 240 SE Estate blue green - spares or repair

This 1993 240 SE ESTATE in blue-green is currently not running as there is some issue with the ignition system. We had the same problem at Christmas where two of the HT leads were loose on the plugs and after tightening these all was well again. The problem has now recurred but we haven't been able to get it running yet. Perhaps there is a prior issue with the distributor or the coil.

Recently fitted:
New exhaust system
New radiator
New front wheel bearings
New fuel pump

Defects:
Dent on tailgate (see picture)
Interior plastic trim broken in several places
Glove compartment lock broken
Several issues with electrics: electric windows temperamental, instrument illumination not working and one headlight wiper not working)
Bit of chrome trim missing from front bumper (see picture)
One bonnet hinge broken
There was an oil leak from the gearbox which the garage repaired using a stop leak additive but I'm not sure how permanent this would be.

Open to offers.

Hey, thats nice!

My 240 was bought with an electrical fault causing a non-running issue, nobody could figure it out- Turns out it was the crank sensor.

My 240 had a similar sounding problem, turned out to be a dodgy wiring plug in front of the blukhead in the middle .

I'd definitely try a crank sensor, it's a fairly common fault on late 240s and will cause a no-spark situation, sometimes intermittently.

It will be very sad if this gets broken, but if it does, I'd like to stake a claim here and now for the OSR lower door hinge, NSR door and OSF wing, the paint is ruined on mine thanks to the postman dragging a piece of metal over it!

Well looks like it needs a little bit of TLC by a volvo enthusiast?
Quite a few bits of rust showing although not looking to be very seriouse.usual places and seem to be more prevalent on the last year or so of manufacture.IMHO.
First registered 20-04-1993,in Dundee.
Tax due 01-03-2012,
Engine capacity 1986cc,
Colour Green,
Five speed manual box,
Looking at the overall condition and lack of keeping on top of things I would guess the leaking gearbox may well be a crankshaft output seal instead?Possible crankcase breather problem?
Location Lochgilphead-Argyll and Bute.(Glasgow)

Always loved that colour Verdigree?

As I said a possible nice car but money and time needs spending to get it back to good condition. But would stand out well due to age and colour.
Would be worth more in parts unfortuneately. And I don't say that as a rule.

I wish you well with the sale but bear in mind without service history it doesn't entice me.
Regards Brian.

Thanks for all your replies. Just a quick note to say that the car is actually located in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire and that it has MOT until September. The tax ran out at the end of February.

Just a thought but have you looked into selling the number plate separately. I just had a quick look online and something similar was valued at £1495. Not that you'll get that much but may be you're sat on a plate that will get you more than the car !!!
