Default Volvo crash response!

Just returned from my yearly trip to huskvarna, Sweden. I work for the chainsaw company husqvarna so visit the factory yearly. Any how whilst I was over there I saw an xc60 covered in reflective markings and a light bar. At first I thought it was a police car but getting close it said on the side Volvo cars crash response team. Looking on the web it seems they visit scenes of accidents involving Volvos for research into safety and such like. Never seen it before, has any one else seen this anywhere?

Also saw numerous new xc90s! Fantastic country!

They've been doing it for over 40 years. Gathering real life data.

Apparently they attend all accidents involving Volvos within a 30km? radius of Gothenburg. They have a very good relationship with the local Police who give them considerable access to the scene. We learned about the team and their work last week at our visit to Torslanda. Unfortunately we were running out of time so didn't actually get to meet them although they were next door. Now that would have been interesting but that would have entailed a few hours I think.
One interesting piece of information I learned was that Volvo door handles are designed to allow a Swedish Firefighter with his gloves on to grasp and open the doors. Such is there attention to detail.

I think it's a fantastic idea no better way of getting real world information. Be a very interesting job. They also say no one will die or be seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020!

According to the lady giving us the talk, Volvo are already 98% there and they have no doubt that they will manage 100% by 2020. We could probably have spent a large part of the day at that department. So much fascinating information but we would have needed more time.

You can always come back in 2017 on the next trip, I'm thinking may.

Now that is temptation, Steve. I will work on it.
Graham, notice you work for Huskvarna. When we went with the Club in 2008, part of the trip included a visit to the Press Plant at Olufstrom which was excellent. The group was split into two and the other half visited a private museum there. Owned by an elderly retired haulage contractor he had many interesting items from the 7th Volvo! to a Ford Prefect but also two rows of Huskvarna motor cycles. In my ignorance I wasn't aware that they made motor cycles. I have a few pics of the museum but not sure of the quality of the bikes. If you would like to see them PM me your email address and I will send them. Afraid I have great difficulty uploading pictures onto the Forum.
