Default XC40 2023 spongy brakes

I have a 2023 XC40 B4 mild hybrid.

I know it has regenerative braking, and I see the battery charge indicator when I am braking. However I find the brakes slow to react, they seem spongy. Several times on the motorway I have had the autobraking kick in because the car wasn't slowing down enough when I was pressing the brake pedal, which was quite scary.

I have just become aware on this forum of a worldwide Volvo brake software recall issue, is this connected?

I have a colleague who has a Polestar electric and he says it starts to brake as soon as he takes his foot off the accelerator.

I'm sure it's the transition between the regenerative braking and "normal" braking that you're feeling. Mine is like that as well - I found it a bit bizarre at first - having come from a non-hybrid vehicle - but I have learned over time and I am quite ok with them now. Light press is regenerative braking, and to activate friction brakes one must press firmer.
