Default Do I get the original crash bar when ordering a tow bar?

I have ordered our XC90 with the electrically deployable tow bar. Am I right in thinking they remove the original crash bar to fit this? If so, does the dealer give me the original crash bar in case I wanted to remove the tow bar in the future?

Hi,
I've had 2 fitted at Volvo and they haven't given me anything afterwards. I did have to get them to cut a bit more than they had initially done to the bumper to stop it catching.
On my BMW when the chap came to my house he left the original crash bar.
I assume your dealer will fit the tow bar, and it's not done at factory?
You could always ask??

The towbar fit replaces a few components, I'm sure you could request the removed parts to be supplied to you.
  • Crashbar
  • Rubber bung in the boot for cable access
  • Button blank

If you wanted to remove the towbar, you'd also need to update the software to remove the towing features (stability control anti-snaking, foglight disabling, reverse sensor disabling, light check function, etc)

Thanks. I think I'll ask for the bits. Might as well have the bits and store them under my house. I've paid for them after all.

Look at the fitting guide on accessories.volvocars.com and put in your car details you can the go to Pack and load and the the towbar. Scroll down to the installation instructions and you will see that the rear crossbar is removed and not replaced. Other things also might be removed.

Just ask the dealer to leave them in the rear of the car when you collect it.

I asked for - and received - the original metal crash bar, the boot original switch (2 buttons rather than the new 3) and a few other minor parts. I'll probably never never remove the hitch nor use the removed parts but one never knows.
