XC90 Grille styles?
Got myself a replacement grille & I only noticed when I went to fit it, that it neither has the same badge as my original or the 'big badge'. Indeed I'd describe the badge as smaller all round !
In addition, the 'egg crate' section is black, when my original was a grey metallicy sort of colour. Does anyone know from that description - 1) What year of car the grille is for ? (it was sold as an 06-10 year grille) 2) does the plain black mean it is for an even lower spec model than mine (which is only an SE) ? & 3) can the grille be dismantled completely? I already appreciate it can in part from ianu's comments or my other post, but wonder if I could have just swapped the badge out after all this? I don't plan to do that now, as I am quite happy with the look of the new grille...I'm just curious ! I have tried to work it out for myself by trawling Autotrader, but I am none the wiser. |

Aye, I reckon it's not off an 06-10 plate car, but obviously it fits.
Looking at it in the office car park today, I can't decide if I like the 'new' look or not. |

I think I might be answering my own question here but I saw an 04 reg XC90 with my 'new' grille on it today...
If I have done it right, there should be a pic of my 'new' grille fitted to the car & also a few pics of the old one also. I've looked at the rear of the badge on the old one & it has the following onfo on it 05, 06, 07 - all in circles & the word SPORT beside it (the car is an SE). Anyway...I've also now realised they differ considerably, the chrome surround is much wider on the old one, as well as the egg crate being a grey metallic colour. I am going to have a look & see if the badges can be swapped over & if I can tidy up the outside surround of the old one (all pitted/chipped on the inside edge) |

I would say even though the badge is on clips it sits inside a chrome bessel/frame so may not look right id transferred.
The new one looks great, slimmer and am sure the grey looks better than the black. There is a chrome kit on ebay from the states that puts a chrome edge on all the upright strips, maybe thats an option? and I think its under £20. To be honest though a lot of the time people like the 'other' variant. Even if they were the other way round people would swap if you get my meaning. |

The numbers in the circles are normal the manufacturing dates and have arrows on them point out the actual one so yours may be 05/06/07.

Harvey,
I had this discussion with Simon at FRF Volvo last year - and this is what he advised: "Volvo list 3 options for the radiator grille (not taking the V8 versions into account). Part Number 8620641 All vehicles up to MY 2006 Part Number 30678980 Vehicles from MY 2007, up to Chassis Number 549676 Part Number 31290544 Vehicles from Chassis Number 549676 and higher" The early ones had a small square volvo badge, then 07 to 09 is a larger square badge, then the big logo one. V8, Sport & R-Design might be different again! Not sure how black / grey fits either. Swedish autoparts have various pics - http://www.swedishautoparts.com/XC90...ing-parts.html Chris. |

Checked the item code today & it is for the oldest model !
(Part Number 8620641 All vehicles up to MY 2006) However feedback from others has been positive, so I am going to run with it for now. |
