Default 'Time for Regular Service' Warning Message - HELP!

Jumped in the car to drive home tonight (after leaving the car at work for one night) & up pops the 'Time for Regular Service' message along withe orange warning triangle/exclamation mark !

It then disappeared after about a mile or so into my journey. However it reappeared after I picked the kids up from nursery & it's now stayed on.

It was last serviced on 22nd Sept 2010 (so only 10 months) & it's travelled less than 5k since then.

Anyone any idea's...does it maybe just need an 'italian tune up' or is it too late for that.

I'd planned/budgeted to have it serviced when I was off on hols in Sept...not now!

What year and how many miles harvey07 ? Is it possibly a DPF early warning issue ?

It comes on 12000 miles ( or 18000 miles on 2006- models ) OR one year after it was last reset to remind you to have your service m and it stays on for a couple of minutes then goes out for the rest of the journey ... were you aware of it being reset in july last year ?

Thanks for the replies guys - I guess it could be either.

I am aware these engines have DPF issues. It's had a good blast recently, trip up to Loch Ness for a week & three weeks of townish driving since. But it had a month or so of the same before Loch Ness. I'll give it a blast tonight.

Re the service reset, the dealer claimed to have serviced it last Sept 2010 before he sold it to the folk I bought it from (it had been traded in June/July 2010).

It came on again this morning & was off by the time I got to work !

I think you've just answered the question, the dealer said he did a service prior to selling it!

If he actually did the service he wouldnt have reset a warning light that wasnt lit, after all the volvo didnt know it was being serviced for its new owners piece of mind.

I would get it reset then if its a fault surely it will come back?

If you are correct, then it just sums up what I think about main dealers...so they carry out a service (or claim to), the schedule for which presumably includes stamping the book & resetting the computer...how hard can it be to get both those bits right !

I am going to see if I can reset it myself (using tips from here) & leave the service until Sept.

Unless anything else pops up.

Why do it yourself?

It is an AC service with an AC warranty so it is their problem - let them do it.

If you tamper with it yourself you may give them the excuse the need - and believe me they will use it.

I understand that the reset process is simple (posted on here somewhere)...I have a book that says it was serviced on 22/9/10, so is therefore due by 22/9/11.

I plan to use a local Indy (almost 100% decided on that, heavily influenced by my own experiences & many on here too !) for the service when due (almost half the cost).

I'll take the chance that I will invalidate the remainder of the warranty come Sept, rather than take my pants down & have my erse skelped for a princely sum for the pleasure of dealing with the stealer. Having read the warranty paperwork, I doubt it is worth much anyway.
