Default XC90 12v Switched Feed

Hi, new member, collected my ex demo XC90 this week, base model in Ice White with bluetooth and upgraded alloys - very happy !

I've trawled the forums and found a few different ways to get a 12v ignition switched power supply for hard wiring accessories. The 12v socket in the dash seems to be the most popular source but it's a bit of a hassle getting access, so I was wondering about the wiring underneath the rear console ?

Can anyone tell me which wires I need to tap into ? I believe the purple is 12v switched but I need a neutral nearby that won't affect anything else - presume any black wire is okay ?

Thanks for any assistance.

Greg.

Thanks Ron. Very comprehensive photos and instructions - it's hauling out the whole radio / climate control assembly I don't fancy - the wife will probably kill me ! I've done this job before on a Golf, Mondeo and V50 but the amount of dismantling required on the XC90 looks way OTT just to connect a couple of wires.

Greg, If yours has the power outlet in the arm-rest, you can take that feed. In that case I believe you can even just take out the part with the connectors (slide out the arm-rest and you'll see what I mean) (2 torx screws). The wire colors are the same, purple +12v and black GND

Default switched feed.

Hi, remove the carpet trim that runs down the left side of the console (just pops off. there is a small loom that runs along the gear shift housing (one clip holds the loom to housing), in this you will find a thick purple, this is a good, Volvo approved, switched supply. hope this helps!

Thanks guys, that sounds much easier. I'll have a poke about for that purple wire tomorrow morning. I'm loving this car - pleasant surprise today when I plugged in my iPod to the USB port and could access all the functions via the head unit - just keeps getting better. Apart from the mpg of course but I expected that before I bought it !

Remove the panel by the pedals.. 2 x torx screws ... Then taped on the wiring loom running to the fuse box will be a spare connector purple and black.. It should be pretty easy to find mine was taped up with masking tape.

If you did pop out the dash its really easy.

1, pop up the gear stick surround.
2, this reveals 2 torx screws for the dash.
3, now just drop the entire dash and lift out

Simples
