Default Oh bother

Hit a pothole on the A1 last night.
Steering felt fine afterwards but stopped to discover the alloy has taken a hit and the sidewall has bulged.
Reported to the Highways Agency, now waiting for their form to claim for the damage.
Going to get an opinion about whether the wheel is repairable and I reckon a new tyre is needed.
Anyone ever had success claiming?

You might be lucky. More likely not.

They will tell you the road was inspected according to schedule. They will also tell you they fixed it within a certain timescale of you informing them. If they do both these things then they have discharged their responsibilities.

You only have 2 chances really.

1. If someone else had reported it and they hadn't fixed it - perhaps you can check on fix my street for any previous reports.
2. If they say they fixed it and yet it is still there when you go back.

I got 400 quid out of Notts CC for point 2. They said they had fixed it, but the route was my daily commute and I proved otherwise. That was 18 years ago mind....

Thank you - just checked on fixmystreet as you suggested and it looks like it has been reported three times in the last couple of weeks. Fingers crossed they do something about it soon...

Please you need to allow a reasonable time to fix it too, was it marked up, was there any warnings about it?

For someone like HE on a fast main road like the A1 I would assume that their response time should be quicker. They are a public body so you should be able to request their service commitments which will detail their response time. To be deep enough to bulge a tyre would suggest it should have been fixed sooner.

An update.
It might have taken them nine months, but the Highways Agency have paid up.
I think the fact that it was the A1 and not a minor road under the control of a cash-strapped local council may have helped.
