I have a petrol V90 Cross Country AWD, but B5 MHEV.

At 85 mph my MPG is 34-35
At 60 mph it’s 36-37
In city it’s around 27.

The B4 might be a but better in fuel efficiency, but not by much.

Manual but I'm led to believe it doesn't make a huge amount of difference with modern auto boxes.

Before: 2019 V60 D4 Inscription Manual ran to 105k miles. 2015 V70 D3 5 Cyl ran to 93k. 2010 V50 1.6D DrivE ran to 87k, bit fragile.

That’s what I suspected. The salesman suggested I’d get early 40s from a V90 B4 petrol but I think that’s optimistic looks like 36-37 is more like it

Maybe the V60 B4 petrol would give early 40s

My B4 Petrol is averaging around 33mpg at the moment, I live in the Welsh valleys so there are lots of hills and, due to some major roadworks in the area at the moment, lots of traffic jams! On a run I usually get around 40 - 45.

Thanks. My journey to work is a mix of motorway and then traffic and a bit of 50mph so I guess on a petrol V60 I might average 40mpg

My V60 Cross Country B5 P has averaged 37mpg
Calculated over 5,500 miles since september last year. (manually, not the cars computer)

Driving is mixed - very occaisional short 2 mile trips - Most are 15miles mixed roads to the nearest town - Some 200mile days and a few long motorway trips.

Mine to is a V60 D4 Automatic (Diesel), but I would take the computer readouts for fuel consumption with a pinch of salt. My experience is they vary by up to 10% if you calculate fill up to fill ups. Can generally achieve 650 to 700 miles on a tank.

That said, if your annual mileage is 13k per year then petrol maybe your best bet. Also short trips don't favour diesels too

That's a good point! I was going from the car's computer. Looking at my fuel log app it's actually showing 35.08 over the last 7250 miles since I bought it, so in reality is actually a little better than the car is quoting!

Comparing that to my previous V70 diesel (1.6 Drive) which averaged 42.11 over 10 years of ownership, the petrol V90 isn't bad at all for such a big car. It's costing about 50% more per mile to run so far at 37p/mile compared to the V70's 24p/mile but a lot of that is down to the increased price of fuel and the extortionate VED, £510pa vs £30 .

Thanks for all your replies. Looking at this then even in a V60 I might be optimistic to get early 40s mpg from the petrol
