Default How do I work out MPG?

As in the title how do I work out my MPG?

It's a 1989 glt 240 auto.

I have used 60 euros worth of petrol at 1.43 euro a litre and got 260 miles out of the 60 euros worth. This is mostly rural driving with a bit of town and a few short bursts of speed. I do drive it quite briskly up to the speed limit.

Thanks James.

60 euros at 1.43 per litre = 60/1.43 = 41.96 litres of petrol used

1 imperial gallon = 4.55 litres

41.96/4.55 = 9.22 gallons of petrol used

260 miles takes 9.22 gallons, so 260/9.22 = the number of miles travelled per gallon = 28.2 MPG!

Not too bad, all things considered. I rarely saw anything that good out of my old GLT.

Oh, and a US gallon is only 3.78 litres, so in America you only get 23.4 MPG.

Default 27 mpg- supermarket fotocopies

works out at 27 mpg.

========================
2 minutes of simple calculating

1== find the amount of liters you get for 60 gbp at 1,43
2== convert liters into gallons
3== divide distance by gallons.

result 27mpg.

pfffffffff- why cant you do that yourself.

------------------------------
in my local supermarket you can make your photociopies yourself @ 6 p each.

when i come to the till and say "" I have 6 photocopies"" the girl cries out "" where is the calculator""

I siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

I think UK is the only country where people use the distance covered per amount of currency put in the fueltank, this makes for no comparison at all over time, different vehicles, drivers etc.

MPG is a non-lineair unit, which makes it difficult to compare as well. From wiki: Because consumption is an inverse function of MPG, MPG can be misinterpreted in terms of fuel consumption improvement. Some people intuitively take the difference in MPG when comparing two cars. This leads them to underestimate the savings from small improvements on low MPG cars (e.g., 14 to 20 MPG, which saves twice as much fuel over a given distance as the improvement from 33 to 50 MPG).

When you use GPM (or L/100 km) you can compare vehicles, driving style etc.

marc== you are uttering giblish.

==the original post asked for mpg== did you inderstand that.

==your remark << I think UK is the only country where people use the distance covered per amount of currency put in the fueltank,>>> is derogativ.

==to add-- a bookkeeper is not interested in mpg, he will ask for cost/mile,
for his financial entries

I just use http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ and have found it very good.

It also lets me display my mpg in my signature with a little bit of code; if you click on it, it'll display all my entries and a review of my consumption.

The formula I use for an automatic Volvo is take the average mpg of everyone on the forum and divide by 2.

Hi thanks everyone and Wobble I am very pleased with the MPG and think if I drove it like granny and avoided towns I could see 34mpg. I think for an auto it's very acceptable.
