Unhappy Oil pressure and conking out at idle

Hi to all, seem to be having a few probs with the 131 at the moment which is frustrating as this is my daily driver. First, I still havent fitted the carb I bought of Gordon, though looks like I might now, depending on the mercy and goodwill of the forum members...and if its really necessary.
The swede has got 2 problems I wondered if anyone could shed any light on.
1. On cold days the car starts on the button and drives fine(or did do) but after 20 miles or so, once nice and warm, the yellow oil light comes on & the Amazon starts spluttering at idle and will only keep going if choke pulled half on. If stalls, starts straight away and idles fine, seems to be caused by being on the move and only in cold weather. Never happened once in summer.
I have a Stromberg CD175-2 carb with a temp compensator on, so a late one I think.
Have checked points gap=ok, new dist cap & rotor, new plugs.convinced its the compensator and have been told you can disable by screwing the adjuster so it dosnt move?
Im stumped. The car did this last year and I put up with it by using the choke in the end.If anyone can point to a cause I would be so bloody grateful...totally at a loss.
2 When i set off home tonite, car was fine, no stalling etc as above, but it was a bit warmer so didnt expect it to really. One thing I did notice was that for the first few minutes the oil pressure was REALLY high, so much so that I drove slowly to keep it low.The pressure didnt drop even at idle, which is worrying. After about 15 mins, pressure went back to normal. I darent drive her again unless sure not doing any damage...any ideas?
sorry to be a pain , any ideas would be really welcome....such a bum as just had new clutch, fitted new water pump, tuned up properly and was really enjoying her again, now bit nervous about getting stranded.

Stuart, does the oil light only come on when the engine is virtually stalling?

Also, when you say the oil pressure was high - are these readings from a separate gauge? If so, how high? Also, when the oil light comes on, what reading did the gauge have, as the oil light senders can go wrong. If it was down to about 10psi or less when the light lit up, and the engine was hot & running so slowly as to be virtually stalling, then I wouldn't worry.

One thing that has occured to me is that although a cold engine will have noticably higher oil pressure until the oil warms up properly, this could be made much higher still if the pressure release valve became stuck closed.

More info on the oil pressure readings & symptoms would make it much easier to comment on what the root of that problem is

I know nothing about Stromberg carbs, so can't comment there but did you change the plug leads too? Migth be worth ensuring that the entire ignition system is tip top. What about the coil too?
