Default Ordered an S90 R-Design (D4)...

Hi guys,

New here as I just ordered an S90 so figured it's always best to join the forums!

I've been given a date of 19th of December for delivery so seems a long way off! (and my current lease car runs out on the 2nd of December. :\ )

I went for an R-Design with standard alloys in Onyx black with front sensors added. I'm now wondering if I should try to change for the full surround cameras but it's quite a jump from £325 to £1300! I'm also now concerned about maintaining the black as various people have told me it's a nightmare and the limited pics I can find of the Bright Silver R-Design seem to look nice too! (Any opinions welcomed!). I'd hesitate about pushing the build date back even further though!

I must say for all the criticisms of a harsh ride on the R-Design it seemed absolutely fine on the test drive, well damped, comfortable and muted - far better than Audi's and BMW's of recent years I've been in. Then again it could have had air suspension and dealer not told me!

Anyway, saying hello mainly!

Cheers,

Jim.

Welcome, and I hope you can stand the wait!

Delivery times are a bit approximate, though mine did work out quite accurate. There will be a cut off date for any spec changes, so make your mind up quickly.

Go for the surround camera system

I have reverse camaera in my Volvo XC90 and it is fantastic

I wish I had front camera, and side as well....

To justify the cost: the option is cheaper than fixing scratched bumpers and scrapped doors....

Cheers guys, I think I'll give them a bell about the surround, was only ordered on Monday so should be ok...

Still not 100% on colour, probably prefer the black but I'm a wash-the-car when it looks dirty kinda person rather than a weekly polish and wax type!

Hmm...

Hi Jim,

I have the standard R-Design 18" black alloys - No problem with keeping them clean in my opinion.

I think the "harsh ride" comments usually apply to the 20" and up rims people have.

I certainly haven't had an issue with the ride quality of the 18".

Regarding the cameras..... The 360 camera is the best feature on the car by an absolute mile - There's always the argument of "well, I've never had it, so won't miss it" - Which still rings true.....

But - If it's within budget, go for the 360 all day long.

As for the colour, I'm not massively fussed between the silver and black - It's a very personal thing (I have Bursting Blue which I'm sure some people won't like, but I absolutely love).

Black looks more aggressive/sporty - The silver possibly suits inscription a bit better (classy rather than sporty).

But both will look good!

Awesome, cheers Nick!

Thanks for the info, I was veering towards silver but looking around the last couple of days on the road I tend to think even fairly dirty black still looks pretty nice as long as there's some chrome to brighten things up. Silver cars tend to look a little anonymous. I really like the bursting blue (and passion red even!) but the dealer wouldn't throw it in as part of the deal. :\

I emailed the dealer last night to call me today and I think I'll add the 360 camera, the wife has it on her Qashqai and it's definitely a cool feature, with such a long car I think it's going to make life a lot easier. My main reservation is that it's only a 2 year lease so a lot of additional cost, but then that's still quite a long time do be worrying in multi-story car parks!

My last XC90 was black, and to be honest I didn't really notice it was dirty until I started washing it ! So in my opinion black hides dirt well, and only looks terrible if you wash it and miss a bit.

I always find silver a little bland, unless you have a bright red interior...

Electric Silver also hides dirt well.
It stands out from other silver colours too - definitely not bland.

Yeah, that was another on the "premium" list along with the Bursting Blue so I'd decided to stick to the three normal metallic finishes, the other being Osmium grey. I wrote off the grey right away purely because the two other directors at my company have a 5-Series and MX5 in pretty much exactly the same colour, would look a bit depressing in the car park!

my D4 Momentum is in Brilliant Silver. I like it second best to the Electric Silver I had on my MY07 S80. Don't have much of a problem with dirt build up, just bugs splattered up front. You cant tell from a distance.

I clean it once a month, after 2000 miles of commuting.
