Default Alarm Service question (alarm sort of working)

Hi

I've got the "Alarm Service" message coming up on the dash display and the alarm doesn't sound when triggered.

I assumed that the battery or circuit board is junked and at some point I will need to get around pulling the unit and replacing the junked components.

Much to my surprise, I have discovered that if I press the red triangle (I assume "Panic Button") on my remote keyfob, the alarm actually sounds.

Now I'm assuming that if the battery was dead or the circuitry was wrecked due to corrosion from leaking dead battery then the alarm wouldn't work under any circumstances.

Any suggestions?

Hi everyone

My post has been viewed 101 times but seemingly no-one has had the same issue.

Got to be someone who has an idea what the issue might be.

I don't know if anyone is aware enough of the particular workings of the alarm PCB which is usually the bit that ends up kaput due to battery leakage

I don't know either but perhaps it's possible that the pcb is involved with the logic of alarm conditions i.e the movement sensor, window breaks, etc, whereas the red triangle simply triggers a relay which sends 12v straight to the siren.. I'm just spitballing here of course, someone may come along with the wiring diagram and confirm or deny this

If the siren isn't triggering in normal alarm conditions and you have the ubiquitous alarm service message then I would say its time to replace the siren module which includes the pcb. it's a couple hundred quid but I thought it was worth it when I did mine (although I found a NOS on ebay for 170 iirc)

I came and read and subscribed because I have the same issue...I expect the PCB board is also in charge of charging the battery and monitors it's state of charge....as the battery condition starts to decline the PCB causes the error.....

Sadly I don't have the cash to buy a used item and take it apart to have a look....anyone got one they can donate?

when you press the button on the fob it sounds the horn not the siren the horn dose not sound when the alarm goes off they are 2 different sounds.
