GDi engine with Ecotek Powerboost - Any good ?
In a couple of posts on this forum I have come across people mentioning Ecotek Powerboost as a possible solution (or preventative measure) to the GDi engine coking problem.
http://www.ecotekplc.com/PowerBoost.htm For 35 quid (ish) for a couple of cans it seems like a better alternative to the £2k strip down and de-coke that has been mentioned. Has anyone tried this and if so what have the results been ? Or does anyone have any comments regarding the use of products like this ? I have an '04 GDi S40, (47k on the clock) but know that previous owner used regular unleaded with no Redex etc and thought that although I use super-unleaded and redex now, this might help to remove any build up that has occured previously. Apologies if I have missed a previous thread which discusses using this, but I have searched (honest !) Cheers, Chris. |

i've used powerboost recently as i've had the normal problems on an 85k GDi engine. the treatment has made an effect, but i feel it is slightly worse than before. I didn't have idle surge before but i do now, and the flat spots on moderate acceleration are still there. I am going to re apply with another can in a few days time as i removed the main air intake when i applied the last can and on the third application the car kept stalling so i don't feel it got the full application benefit.
I'll let you know the outcome. |

I used it on mine and there was a slight improvement. However, 20 miles on the motorway in third gear pulling 5000 revs had much the same effect.

i asked volvo after a decoke and they said that the addatives weren't worth the bother.
They recomended a thrash up and down the motorway in 3rd using Super Unleaded |

Many thanks for the replies.
Would be very interested to know how you got on steptow, but from reading what the others have said, might just stick to the 'Italian Tune-Up' method as there does not seem to be a significant benefit of using the Powerboost. |

This "Powerfoam" lark is a bit OTT I feel. Like has already been said a good motorway session is good tonic for most cars that live or bumble around town. I use Shell V-Power in the T4, 1)because thats whats recommended 2)it burns better and hotter blah blah so prevents and carbon fouling, not that it gets much chance as it spends a good bit of time - Ahem - at high revs.
Go for a few tankfulls of branded super unleaded and a run down the motorway or equally some spirited driving sessions, it will do no harm at all and remove a few cobwebs too. PS Is the cambelt in good nick? Just a thuoght before you start giving it some beans....
