Default XC90 Active Bending Lights - RHD LHD not working

Hi, new user here, I just bought a MY2008 2.4 XC90.
I think I have the Bi Xenons with Active Bending Lights because there is a switch on the centre console you can press for 5 seconds to change from RHD to LHD light pattern.
My problem is the green light on this switch is flashing and pressing and holding the button does nothing to remedy this.
There is an error message on the display.
I took the car to a Volvo Indy and they said I need to replace the left hand headlamp / near side, for £600 plus.
Can anyone offer any help please.. might one of the motors in the headlamp need a clean ? Maybe a wire is broken in the headlamp ?
All lights and lamps seem to work OK, it's just the switch is flashing and error message which come up.
Tks in advance...

If you wish, you can disassemble the headlamp and inspect and attempt to repair the internals

There is a reason the indy says replace the headlamp: disassembly was never intended to occur as the headlamp is glued together. You need to unglue it, and then repair it with pieces from another headlamp, then glue it back together
And if you are going to buy another headlamp as a parts donor, why not just fit the other headlamp?
A million times easier and saves you the headache and heartache of disassembling 2 x headlamps to repair one of them.

Suggestion - Find someone whose car has the same functionality and arrange to temporarily swap out the headlamp unit (easy to do) to see if the fault is in the headlamp or external to it.

Cheers

Hi Dave, thanks, yes swapping with another headlamp to check is a good idea..
Do you know once a headlight has been swapped if the code needs to be cleared with a VIDA tool ? Or if it will automatically clear ?

Anyone in West London with a LHD xc90 with bi xenons which I could test on my car....

Tks

Will

Ah!

You didn't mention you had a LHD car

Finding a suitable donor vehicle (in London) might be a bit of an issue...

Cheers

The beam pattern is irrelevant when testing the headlamp motors

All he wants to do is isolate the fault to inside, or outside, of the headlamp.
And thus any headlamp will be fine for the test. LHD or RHD beam pattern does not matter.
