Project or task to do then use these fellows and it will all go well.

Or, in full,

I keep six honest serving-men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.
I send them over land and sea,
I send them east and west;
But after they have worked for me,
I give them all a rest.

I let them rest from nine till five,
For I am busy then,
As well as breakfast, lunch, and tea,
For they are hungry men.
But different folk have different views;
I know a person small—
She keeps ten million serving-men,
Who get no rest at all!

She sends'em abroad on her own affairs,
From the second she opens her eyes—
One million Hows, two million Wheres,
And seven million Whys!

Rudyard Kipling (1865* - 1936)

Not a bad philosophy when you think about it!

Regards, John

Yes, I do know the poem (NOW I do). But which two men did you mean, John? "What" and... ?

In your own words, Thomas, post #79:

"And so, few posts above could be summed up as "what it is"...

Now. "WHY" is it so?
"

Primary questions applied to 'purpose' with a view to elimination if possible:
WHAT is done?
WHY is it done?

Regards, John.

Ahhh! Now I got it.

In my reasoning for TWO men, I excluded WHAT as I see it as starting point

But, back to original question, if large number of people recognise some act as foolish.. why do they still do it and how to stop them?

I just realised another mistake of mine:

Post #84 should have ended as "WHY and...?"

Now that is a much more difficult question to answer, Thomas! J.

Thomas, do you tire of beating your head against an imovable object ? Most do and this is how they win. Prevaricate and delay long enough and people will give up. Establishments the world over have made an art forms of this. It confirms their power over the underlings.

Paul.

In short: yes, yes I do.

But only when convinced that the object cannot, indeed, be moved.

I start from assumption that it can, and it's only a matter of figuring out how. And then it is a really, really, hard job to get my head to flick an idea into "impossible" drawer.

Nothing is impossible.

To the best of my knowledge, one of you might be a drag queen in pink tutu and construction boots. I have no way of knowing unless I'd be bothered to check.

I think its better to spend such efforts for something a bit more.. beneficial.

As someone once said:

"If something cannot be done, you need a fool who doesn't know it. He'll go and do it"

So please stop teaching me that it cannot be done?

I'm actually beginning to think that this is actual problem here, underneath all of this.

People thinking that most of things that they'd like to see simply cannot be done.

"Oh, this government is crap, should be changed"

Nobody does a thing

"Council didn't let me refurbish front of house. Neither me or half the town"

Nobody does a thing

"Hard shoulders got closed, risk of actually dying on motorway is higher than ever"

Nobody does a thing

"My town introduced ulez to milk residents for money"

Nobody does a thing

"There's no police on the road"

Nobody does a thing

Shall I keep on going?

It'll be a long long post...

Yes, I think the major problem, the big picture, is that people not only believe, but work hard on convincing self and others, that "things cannot be done"

HOW to change THAT?
