Default Leather front seats but keeping everything else

Hi guys. I am in the position, probably similar to quite a few Amazon owners, where the front seats are quite badly damaged but the door cards and any other upholstery is fine. The wife wants leather seats and I am wondering how original I can get them made, to match the colour of the rest of it and also to match as closely as possible the colour and detailing of the original skaï. I don’t want to affect the value of the car too much with something that looks obviously not original.

It would be interesting to know what others have done.

Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom, year, model and interior colour code would help. Several suppliers offer seat covers in original colour codes. Not sure which ones supply leather. Your interior if original being 40+ years old is possibly a different shade than new. Failing that attend an auto upholstery shop and see if they can match your existing. Also try searching this forum for others experience.

Here’s an example.

It’s a 1970 2-door. The seats are a sort of veiny red so it must be “434-636 1970“. Twisting a bit of the base out from under the frame reveals something g approaching the original colour. But the colour in the link you attached looks much redder. I would love to see it in the flesh.

Does anyone in the south east have a recent set of these that I could see? Will also ask Brookhouse and Amazon Cars.

I think I will preserve originality and go with the new sets. Are they all the same quality-wise. I’m looking at VP as a first call.

Thanks.

The upholstery code is on your specs plate under the bonnet. The VP covers are as good as the originals and these are supplied by Brookhouse as well. You won't be able to have leather ones made with this material pattern. Bespoke leather ones in a plain colour will cost you likely 3-4 times the cost of the stock replacements.
Consider new foam and new support webbing as part of the job.

I did as you said got mine from Amazon cars, did the foam and the webbing plus powder coated the frames and the seats look brand new.. The upholster commented on how good the new covers were... but they are very tight to fit.

Hi
We had ours retrimmed a few years ago. We looked at the vinyl sets but in the end went full leather as just seemed a lot more practical with having two dogs. They were made by a local gentleman who used the original for patterns
