I felt an increase in tightness of steering. Not essential but worth it.
Definitely feels a bit tighter and ever so slightly firmer over bumps. Just need to replace the front 4c struts now and all the front end is renewed minus the anti roll bar/arb bushes

A few laps of brands hatch today in calm non-racing style with kids in the back, alongside mostly RS focuses as you'd probably expect but also a few classic escorts and a granada which was nice.. Following an rx7 which was making some lovely noises

Fresh oil and filter, three years since the last change and replaced both front drop links which were very much past their best.

Yep, still tis done now, not been doing much mileage so thats helped a lot but nice to get fresh oil and a filter done, and new drop links have made so much difference can actualy turn the radio down now instead of trying to drown out the clunking.

Default Xenon headlight ballast replacement.

For the last few weeks I've had an intermittent 'bulb failure' warning for one of my xenon headlights and decided, from the symptoms,it was probably the ballast. Changing the ballast took less than 2 minutes - checking the bulb and connectors/igniter similar, getting the bumper off, and back on again,to get the headlight out, took the best part of an hour! A combination of rusted bolts, fragile plastic 'rivets' and 'tired' plastics made for a frustrating experience.

What else did I do? Vowed to avoid owning cars that require substantial dismantling to accomplish what should be simple tasks.

Thankfully, on the newer P3 models, removing the headlight is as simple as lifting the bonnet & pulling two metal prongs. No bumper removal required.

You’re right though, substantial dismantling for a simple task is ludicrous.

in fairness though the original design like mine only has 'standard' bulbs which can be replaced in the usual way with no removal of the whole unit, it's a bit of a fiddle but definitely possible.. even the adjuster motor can be changed in situ

So the only reason to take it out is it it's actually physically broken, which is a fairly unlikely event and in which case it's a fair bet you've mangled the bumper as well

It seems to be only when they changed to the different types of lamps later on that it got awkward, and you can't really expect them to change the fundamental design of the front end of the car just to suit new lamps

the one that gets me is the ARB bushes, I want to change them and it should be a 20mins job

I suppose all cars have their foibles like that

i think it was the Fiat coupe, someone was telling me about, you're supposed to take the engine out to change the timing belt

instead, they put it on a lift, undid the mounts, lowered it onto a crate which pushed the engine up, pushed the engine over to one side a bit and you can just about get in there

insane design. properly quick car though apparently
