If you are wanting something with good summer road manners, low noise but also capable in mud and snow then IMHO one of your best options is Cooper WeatherMaster WSC.
They are one of the few Alpine Snowflake marked winter tyres but with an All Terrain biased tread pattern. They're good value at around £90 each on Oponeo - I've had their predecessor (Cooper Discoverer MS2) on my XC90 for 5 years and done 35k on them and they still have 4-5mm on them. They're fitted all year round. I used to have an XC60 with Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season on it and I've drive that and the XC90 back to back in snow - whilst the Pirelli's are substantially better than the factory Continentals, the Coopers were better still - same again on very wet roads. Only downside is they do knock 1-2 MPG off compared to normal summer tyres. Full winter road tyres often struggle in mud as the fine siping quickly fills with mud and they become slicks... When fitting winter tyres you invariably drop at least one speed rating, maybe two.

Well after the advice on the forum and what my garage could get in stock for my MOT i went with the Pirelli Scorpion all seasons.
So far happy with them, £85 a corner, they're definately quieter than the mishmash i had on it before of continentals on the front and pirelli on the back. car feels stable although not really put them to the test yet. Car always looks good with new boots
