Lightly refurbed a set of oresets wheels, well 2 so far so that I can get the set that's on my car at the moment which are the ones in my sig,to be refurbed as well. 2 are slightly buckled but not cracked so will see if they can be straightened. Also gave the car a quick polish, don't come up to bad really.

Picked up Gloria. Another bill.
Well, I said it was the sensors so now have 2 second hand brake pressure sensors, 2 shiney new parking sensors, 2 rear drop links and this has cost me 2 visits to a garage - £780 and £980 in the last 5 weeks. I also have silver foil wrapped around some pipes that come out of the ABS module that I supplied - clearly, the other module wasn't faulty but garage is probably selling that to... Driving down dual carriageway and misfire is still there. A 'Free' diagnostic says the Camshaft Position Sensor has blown. Great. That will be why the engine rocks backwards and forwards and the timing is off. However, Gloria eventually did pass her MOT.... |

Oh, "Carbon Monoxide emissions are high but that is probably because of all the tuning you had done so we passed it anyway" - "Welcome to Cornwall"

Not been online for a while, ticked over 199k this evening, even managed to get home with the odo reading 199000 though it'll probably go to 199001 as soon as we turn a wheel tomorrow!
Still enamoured with our £695 S80 over a year on. Steering rack finally replaced back in July along with a wishbone for the MoT, she now drives even better than before and superbly comfortable.

On returning to the T5 in a windy car park, I noticed that the fuel flap was open a couple of centimetres - it hadn't locked after half an hour. On further investigation I found that the lock pin was jammed in.
Today, removing the wing liner, I found that the single bolt where the boot cover slots in was loose, very odd. Taking the lock apart, it became apparent that at some point it had been taken apart previously and re-assembled with the black inner screw thread upside down. There are a locating teeth on either side of a thrust block on the screw which run in channels on each side of the internal body of the lock. If it is fitted upside down it jams as the locating teeth are different lengths and the longer one will not run along the the shallower channel effectively locking place in the closed position when the casing is put back together. Putting it back the right way round; low and behold the lock works perfectly. It also transpired that who ever did the "repair" had also got the inner wing rubber insulation and the fibre board overlap the wrong way round which was why the boot floor hadn't been fully closed, I had thought it was warped. So six months after buying the car, I no longer have a strange knocking sound from the back of the car which I had thought was a loose mudflap, but now know to be a flapping fuel flap and I have a locking fuel flap which I did not know anything about until a windy Saturday stay in a car park popped it open. Next on the cards is replacing the thermistor in the the Climate control panel.

Yesterday I tried for two and a half hours to find the fault why I don't get the correct temperature shown in my instrument.
I tried everything that is mentioned in VIDA, I even replaced the cable from the mirror to the PDM. Didn't work. So I called it a night... This morning I went to the car again and suddenly I remembered one can read the actual value with VIDA. So I checked the ambient temperature settings and the supply voltage, everything fine. But still no or incorrect temp in the dash. And then I tried the sensor in the drivers door. What can I say, ambient temp -4°C... Damn it! So I called my dealer, tomorrow I'll see what a new sensor does... But, I'm honestly surprised about the price: 20.-€

I finally got round to replacing the damaged thermistor in the Climate Control Unit and now after half an hour's effort have fully functional & accurately temperature controlled air con - the output was within only 0.2°C above the dial setting on the control unit in recycle mode which probably takes in to account the natural rate of air cooling as it passes through the system
(Remember to disconnect the battery before removing the CCU.......otherwise you get the SRS/air bag message) I duplicated the order with marginally different configurations "just in case" but I could only order the thermistors in packs of 5 (our local Maplins has gone!!!) so I now have nine spare thermistors ie 5 of RS Spares EPCOS B57540G1103F000 Thermistor 10kΩ, 0.8 (Dia.) x 1.4mm (glass) RS Stock No. 769-1892 which cost me £3.59 each delivered and 4 of TKS DHT0A103F34D3SY 10K 3435k 1% Axial (Glass) NTC Thermistor Order Code: 55-1229 from Rapide which cost me £2.20 each delivered. The RS's are spherical - the Rapid's cylindrical but both have the same spec and operational parameters!!!! I soldered in/used the Rapid variant as they arrived first. I'm happy to sell them on to Volvoforums.org.uk members at cost for either type + 95p P&P i.e. to cover the bubble wrap, envelope & postage if anyone is interested. They are very small components so some sort of protective wrapping is needed in the post.

What I did today was get towed off the motorway by the AA!
Had my V70 D5 for just roughly 5 weeks, my first Volvo. 2006 model with 126k on the clock, Full service history and timing belt just done before I got car. Seemed to be running perfect since having the injectors sorted under warranty. It was struggling to start sometimes but injectors 2,3 and 4 were faulty so they were sent away to be refurbished and put back in. Been starting and running perfectly for 2 weeks since then. Today however, on motorway heard a small clunk, engine started to rattle like mad, grey smoke poured out the exhaust and strong smell of fumes. Sounded like someone had thrown a bag of screws in the engine. AA man obviously had a quick listen but quickly turned it off. The cars now on its way back to the garage I bought it from and it sounds like I’m just going to be getting my money back after speaking with the fella there. He’s been great to be fair at getting the other problem sorted but even he said it’s probably going to be a case of giving me my money back this time. So it’s not put me off, I still want another but I’ve since sold one of my other cars and have a bit more cash available so may look at a slightly newer one, 09 reg ish. Any recommendations on best engines etc and any ideas what might have gone wrong with mine today? Cheers. |
