If you have day running lights, then yes...

You can have them turned off if you want. Take it to a dealer or someone who can hook it up to the computer and turn the 'day running lights' off.

I had mine turned off last week at a dealer and cost £7.50 + vat.

Why did you want to?

Daytime running lights reduce your chances of someone pulling into your path by 25%, that's why they will be compulsory on all new cars in Europe from next year. You'll have noticed alot of new cars already have them.

The law has actually changed already, should have checked. New models launched after Feb 2011 must have DRLs. You won't be allowed to switch them off. 6% reduction in deaths and injuries expected once all cars have them according to DoT.

Would be interested to learn if your insurance company know that you've turned them off and if they charged you extra as you have effectively disabled a safety feature on your car.

I like to be able to turn my lights completly off. I am more than capable of turning them on as and when I need them or when I want them. No need to be on all the time in this country.

Get real! Does anybody inform their insurance company when they have an airbag light on because now the car has a disabled safey feature or an ABS light on or when they deliberitely turn off STC/DSTC??

Never heard of lights being a 'Safety Feature' per say but of course I can appreciate (being a biker too) that the lights offer better awareness to other road users. But as said I am more than capable of turning the inbuilt switch on the dash of my 'non mandatory' DRL's when I require the lights to be on.

I really don't think it is going to make a difference to the price of fish nor my insurance. If DRL's were mandatory (for my vehicle) then that would be different.

Obviously you're at liberty to do as you please but I just don't get why you would want to be less safe.

I am guessing nobody who was injured or killed on the roads today thought they'd be involved in an accident when they left home.

But as I said totally up to you if you prefer to have control over your DRLs being on or off.
