Hi JPW,

I don't have enough posts to PM you. Please can you PM me a contact telephone number? Am interested in the car and would like to find out some more details/arrange a viewing.

Thanks.

Sadly enough, most diesels today are powerful enough to give our cars a run for their money.

Yes and no. Only the newest diesels are worth buying IMO. All the others get good MPG but lack the performance.

It's only the last few years that manufactures like BMW have got powerful and economical engine. Which means you need a pretty high budget to afford one

I'd disagree on that one.

Volkswagen made some decent diesel engines for their Golf MK4 range. The PD150 is a good example. 150bhp - 240 ft torque, 0-60 in 8.5 seconds (equivalent to a 2.0LPT) and returned a combined of 50 MPG. It was fairly tunable without much effort too. (200bhp/350ft achieved with a basic intake/exhaust system and a remap.)

believe it or not, the PD150 was my first choice car but due to some random turn of events I ended up with a Volvo. Lol. Don't take me wrong, I don't regret it, but 50MPG with T4 performance sure does sound good.

Hmm, you're probably right there, but a T4 is much cheaper to buy and after declaring the mods it'll probably cost more to insure than a T4 as the car is worth more and it'll look better to thieves

I'll end up with a diesel sooner or later I know I will. But until then I'll enjoy the mad T4

If you do more then 15-20 miles a day, LPG is an option. Usually putting on LPG would make your car equivalent or surplus a diesel's MPG but by the way things are looking with their new 60 / 80 MPG figures, those days look over.

Agree with Jabe, diesels are pretty impressive these days. Mentioned by myself earlier in another topic was the Peugeot 508 2.0 diesel we had as a courtesy car. 240ib of torque and 140bhp. Very nippy car and would surprise a lot of petrol motors.

Further up the range is a 200hp diesel with 338ib of torque. Sounds like a sleeper

But it's a Peugeot and we all know that no matter how nice it may look and drive/perform it will always always come with questionable reliability lol.

I avoid all French cars and Alphas like the plague which is a shame because IMO alpha have a few beautifully designed cars.

Or the Audi 6.0 V12 TDI.

Something stupid like 500bhp / 730ft torque propels the 2.8 tonne jeep to 60 in 5 seconds WTF! lol. can you imagine remapping that thing?
