Default For those awaiting their new Volvo...

Reading several of the threads on here will generate some concerns about the cars, and probably rightly so.

But look at the up-side:
  • externally the cars have real presence
  • internally they are beautiful; there's no finer interior at this price-point
  • they are great to drive
  • mechanically, they are sound
  • the actual build quality is high
  • you get a lot of car for your money
  • they are arguably the safest cars on the road
  • you get lots of toys as standard
  • the VoC app is genuinely useful and very cool to show off to your mates (most important)
  • the 360 camera is quality
  • pre-conditioning is the dog's danglies
  • the adaptive LED headlamps are so good I get aroused when they come on
  • for £300 you can get heated rear seats and 4-zone climate - a bargain
  • there are lots of little things that have been very well thought through
  • sitting in it makes you attractive to women (that's enough sexist stuff, ed.)
Seriously though, nearly all the problems are software related so should get fixed. A year from now we'll all look back and be laughing our nads off.

Great post, thanks! Only around a month until I get mine so nice to hear the upsides again!

The LED quote made me literally laugh out loud.. Especially as I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with LED lighting, this quote is just brilliant!!

Me too, so far I've converted 48 down-lights in my home to LED. Only another 32 to go!

Love it! Thank you for the post.. Never tried the LEDs, never mind the adaptive shading but really have high hopes for it. I have a weak spot for LEDs too...
3 months to go for me...

What is the pre-conditioning? Is that for hybrids only?
Thanks

Great post.
I did not realise it had only been on sale since Sep last year, so there is hope.
What I am struggling with though is what looks like poor support and service from Volvo.

There is a certain satisfaction one gets switching the lights on and knowing the wattage of all the LEDs amounts to less than one halogen in a given room.

It's standard on the hybrid T8 and optional on all other versions.

You get it by specifying the Auxiliary Heater option. When the external air temperature is below a certain threshold, a small, fuel-fired heater (rated at 5kW) pre-heats the water in the car's cooling system and, together with an electric pump and the climate system's fans, allows heating of the engine block and passenger cabin for up to 40 minutes before starting the engine. You can set a timer (up to 8 actually) to turn it on or you do it via the VoC app on your phone. It can also be used without pre-conditioning to speed up heating of the engine and cabin when the engine is started. I suspect this is particularly useful on the D5 as diesels tend to take longer to heat up.

In a similar way, if the cabin temperature is high, eg on a sunny day, switching on pre-conditioning will blow external air through the car to help cool the cabin. I don't know if this ventilation feature is available without the auxiliary heater being fitted. Someone else may advise?
